Who we are

About TeacherPay AU

Independent pay, tax and career guidance for every teacher in Australia, from the team behind Police Pay and TeacherPay UK.

Why we built this

Teacher pay in Australia is set by eight different agreements and awards, each with its own steps, accreditation gates, rise dates and rules for casual staff. The official information is accurate but scattered across gazettes, PDFs and department pages, and the salary websites most people find first average self-reported numbers that are often years out of date.

We built TeacherPay AU to fix that: one place where any teacher, in any state, can see exactly what they're paid, what they take home, what's changing and what their next career move is worth, with every figure traced back to its source.

Part of the Police Pay family

TeacherPay AU comes from the team behind Police Pay, our flagship site and one of the UK's most-used resources for police officers' pay, overtime and pensions. We've since built sister sites for other public-service professions in the UK and Australia, all on the same principles: read the source, date every number, and build tools that do the maths properly.

If you're a UK teacher thinking about Australia, our sister site TeacherPay UK covers the English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish pay scales and the Teachers' Pension, and our Moving to Australia section picks up from there.

How we work

  • Primary sources only. Pay figures come from the enterprise agreement, award, gazette or official pay table. We link to every one.
  • Dated and labelled. Every rate shows when it took effect and whether it's official, proposed (agreed but not yet approved) or our calculation from a published percentage.
  • Independent. We're not affiliated with any education department, union, school employer, super fund or lender, and nobody pays to be mentioned.
  • Honest about uncertainty. Where we couldn't confirm a figure in an official source, we say so on the page.
  • Fixed fast. Corrections are our top priority. See our corrections policy.

How we make money

All calculators and guides are free. We charge for optional premium reports and AI coaching (see pricing). We don't take payment for coverage, and we don't sell your data.

What we're not

We give general information, not personal financial, tax, legal or migration advice. For decisions about your own situation, talk to your employer's payroll team, your union, the ATO, your super fund, a registered tax agent or a registered migration agent.
