In short
Australian teaching interviews usually ask about behaviour management, differentiation, assessment and using data, student wellbeing, working with parents and colleagues, and why you want this school. Strong answers give one real example with a result for students. The coach asks you real panel-style questions, gives specific feedback on each answer and builds a stronger model answer from your own experience.
How to use the ai teacher interview coach
- 1
Choose your interview type
Pick graduate, experienced classroom teacher, leadership or casual relief, and your state, so the questions match the role.
- 2
Answer a question
Type your answer as you'd say it in the room. Speak to a real class and a real example; the feedback is only as good as the detail you give.
- 3
Read the feedback
You'll see what worked, what a panel would probe, and where your answer needs evidence of impact on students.
- 4
Practise the model answer
The coach rebuilds your answer using your example, then asks a follow-up question, just as a panel would.
How teacher interviews work in Australia
Most government schools use a merit selection process: you're shortlisted on your written application, then interviewed by a panel, usually led by the principal or a delegate. Every applicant gets the same core questions, and the panel scores answers against the selection criteria. Some panels give you the questions a few minutes before the interview, or ask you to bring a short teaching artefact.
Because the questions are tied to the criteria, your written application and interview should tell a consistent story. If you wrote about a reading intervention in your selection criteria, expect the panel to ask about it. Our guide to teacher interview questions in Australia has the most common questions by topic.
What the coach checks in every answer
What turns an average answer into a strong one
- Direct opening
- Answers the question in the first sentence
- A real example
- One specific class or student, not a general description
- Your actions
- What you did, step by step, using "I"
- Impact
- A result for students: data, work samples, attendance, behaviour or feedback
- Reflection
- What you learned and would do differently
- Link to the role
- Why this matters for this school's students
This is the feedback framework the coach uses. Model answers are built from your example; the coach doesn't invent experience.
Common question themes
- Behaviour and classroom environment: how you set expectations, respond to disruption and build relationships.
- Differentiation: how you plan for students with additional needs, EAL/D learners and high-potential students.
- Assessment and data: how you use formative assessment and data to change your teaching.
- Wellbeing and child protection: how you support students and what you do when you have a concern.
- Working with others: collaborating with colleagues, communicating with parents and handling a difficult conversation.
- Professional growth: your goals, recent professional learning and how you respond to feedback.
- Leadership roles: leading a team, managing change, supporting staff performance and using whole-school data.
Linking answers to the Standards
Panels think in terms of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: 7 standards across Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Engagement, at four career stages. You don't need to quote standard numbers, but the strongest answers clearly show knowledge of students, effective planning, a safe environment, assessment and feedback, and professional engagement. The coach notes which standards your answer evidences.
Free practice and full access
Your first practice question is free. Full access gives you unlimited practice for six months, across graduate, experienced, leadership and casual relief interviews, with state-specific prompts. The coach gives general feedback; it can't know an individual panel's priorities, so read the school's annual report and plan before the day if you can.
