The short answer

Queensland state school teachers are paid fortnightly, every second Wednesday, and their pay advice is in MyHR Self Service (through OnePortal) and by email. A graduate on Band 2 Step 1 ($90,164 from 1 September 2026) should see about $3,456 gross a fortnight, about $744 PAYG and about $441 super at 12.75%. The 4.75% award rise was due in the fortnight ending 18 October with back pay.

  • Bands 1–3, Senior Teacher and EST get the 4.75% award rise from 1 September 2026.
  • Coach, HAT, Lead Teacher and school leaders get the 3% interim rise from 7 September 2026.
  • The final QIRC arbitration decision is still pending, so more back pay may follow.
  • Employer super is 12.75%, above the 12% legal minimum.

Fortnightly pay after the September 2026 rises

Queensland teachers are currently paid the higher of two rates: the certified agreement rate plus the 3% QIRC interim rise from 7 September 2026, or the award rate after the 4.75% State Wage Case rise from 1 September 2026. For classroom bands, Senior Teacher and EST, the award rate is higher.

Fortnightly = annual ÷ 26.089. Annual rates from the DoE salary schedule (updated 1 Sep 2026); 'before' rates applied 1 Sep 2025 to the rise. HAT and Lead Teacher rose 3% from 7 Sep; the others 4.75% from 1 Sep. PAYG from our 2026–27 engine, tax-free threshold claimed, no HELP.

How the September 2026 back pay shows up

The two rises were processed at different times. According to the QTU, the 3% interim rise was paid in the fortnight ending 4 October 2026 with back pay to 7 September, and the 4.75% award rise was due in the fortnight ending 18 October 2026 with back pay to 1 September. Expect a higher salary line plus one or more arrears lines.

Worked example

Band 2 Step 1 graduate, full-time: the October 2026 pay (illustrative)

New fortnightly salary ($90,164 ÷ 26.089)
$3,456.02
Old fortnightly salary ($86,068 ÷ 26.089)
$3,299.01
Difference a fortnight
About $157.00
Arrears if back pay covers 1 Sep to 4 Oct (34 days)
About $382
PAYG on the new fortnight
About $744
Employer super on the new fortnight (12.75%)
$440.64
Extra gross in the pay with back pay About $539 (about $157 + $382)

Assumes the fortnight ending 18 October was paid at the new rate and arrears covered the earlier days from 1 September. Daily arrears = annual difference ÷ 365. Your payslip may split it differently.

For a teacher at Band 3 Step 4 the same calculation gives about $207 more a fortnight and about $503 of arrears for those 34 days. If the arrears line looks well short of that, check whether it covers the whole period from 1 September.

What happens when the arbitration decides

The State School Teachers' Certified Agreement 2022 reached its nominal expiry on 30 June 2025, and the dispute is in QIRC arbitration. As at 20 October 2026, no final decision or hearing dates had been published. When the Full Bench decides, it will set new rates and decide whether they're back-dated. Whether there's more back pay, and from when, is up to the Commission.

  • Expect a new salary schedule and a new rate on your pay advice from a stated date.
  • If the decision is back-dated, arrears lines will cover the gap, possibly across more than one pay.
  • If the final rates are above the award rate, Bands 1–3, Senior Teacher and EST would move off the award rate.
  • Follow the QLD arbitration tracker for the decision.

Common Queensland payslip problems

  • Step not advanced after a year of satisfactory service
  • Senior Teacher or EST approved but the classification code not changed
  • Award rise applied but arrears missing the first weeks of September
  • Hours changed late, creating an overpayment for leave without pay or reduced hours
  • Locality allowance missing after a transfer to a rural or remote school
  • Super still at the old salary

The Department's overpayments procedure caps recovery at 25% of your gross pay each pay period unless you agree to more, and it can't take your pay below the legal minimum. See what happens with a teacher overpayment.

Who to contact

Check MyHR Self Service first, then ask your school's business services manager whether a change was entered. Payroll Services handles the correction. If it isn't resolved, QTU members can contact the union; Catholic and independent school teachers contact the IEU-QNT. If back pay is late or wrong, read teacher back pay wrong or missing.
