- 3
Choose when you expect the back pay
The Department hasn't published the payroll date, so enter the pay day you expect it. Back pay grows by roughly one fortnight's rise for every fortnight of waiting, so move the date to see the difference.
- 4
Read your result
You'll see your back pay before tax, your new salary from 1 October 2026 and the rise per fortnight. The Personal Pay Report adds the after-tax figures, every fortnightly pay to 2030 and a payslip checklist.
How VGSA 2026 back pay works
Victorian government teachers voted 93.1% yes to the VGSA 2026 (result 17 September 2026), the Fair Work Commission approved it on 16 October 2026 and it came into operation on 23 October 2026. Two rises are back-paid to their dates: the first pay period on or after 10 August 2026 (3% for experienced steps up to 6.33% at the graduate step) and 1 October 2026 (9.75%). You're owed the gap between your old and new fortnightly pay for every day since, plus a $2,000 lump sum.

What you get
Tax on VGSA back pay
Back pay is taxed at your marginal rate, so roughly a third comes off for most classroom teachers. It doesn't push the rest of your salary into a higher bracket. Back pay for 2026–27 paid in 2026–27 is ordinary income for that year. Read more in tax on teacher back pay.
