The short answer
Catholic Education Tasmania (CET) teachers are paid on Levels 1 to 13, which the agreement links to the Tasmanian government's Band 1 teacher scale. At the government rates from March 2026 that is $74,869 (Level 1) to $122,393 (Level 13), with four-year-trained graduates starting at Level 5 ($85,313). We have not seen an official CET schedule confirming those 2026 figures.
- The Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement 2024 passed with 96.6% yes in February 2025.
- Bargaining for a new agreement started in August 2026 after the FWC granted a single interest authorisation.
- CET proposes keeping the link to state pay in a three-year deal.
- 19 November 2026 is the drafting deadline for a ballot this year.
What CET's agreement says about pay
CET's teachers are covered by the Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement 2024. The employer is the Roman Catholic Church Trust Corporation of the Archdiocese of Hobart. Third-party sources give its agreement number as AE528408, approval on 1 April 2025 and a nominal expiry of 30 June 2026, but we could not open the Fair Work Commission copy to confirm those details.
What we can confirm is what staff voted for. The IEU reported on 25 February 2025 that 96.6% voted yes. The deal included:
- A 3% rise in 2025.
- A $1,000 payment in March 2025 for staff at or below Level 4.
- Salaries kept linked to government schools.
- Four-year-trained teachers starting at Level 5.
- 18 weeks' paid parental leave.
- Super paid during the first year of maternity leave.
The pay scale CET is linked to
Because CET's Levels 1 to 13 are linked to the government Band 1 scale, the government table is the best public guide to CET pay. The rates below are from the Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) salary scales, version 1.15 as at 27 August 2026, which apply from the first full pay period in March 2026. They are government rates, not a CET document.
Source: DECYP Salary Scales v1.15 (27 August 2026). Government senior rates on the same schedule: Advanced Skills Teacher $129,640, Assistant Principal $143,334, Deputy Principal $151,590. These are not CET rates.
Take-home pay at each stage
Take-home pay at government Band 1 rates from March 2026 (2026-27 tax)
- Level 1, $74,869
- $60,391 a year, $2,323 a fortnight
- Level 5 (graduate), $85,313
- $67,493 a year, $2,596 a fortnight
- Level 9, $104,050
- $80,234 a year, $3,086 a fortnight
- Level 13, $122,393
- $92,707 a year, $3,566 a fortnight
Full-time, no packaging. These assume CET pays the March 2026 government rate at your level. Employer super at 12% is extra: $10,238 at Level 5 and $14,687 at Level 13.

Check my payCET vs Tasmanian public school pay
On paper, the two sectors pay the same at each level, because the agreement links them. The practical difference is timing. Government teachers are on the Teachers Agreement 2025, which runs to September 2028 and paid 3% from March 2026, with the next 3% due in March 2027. CET's agreement has reached its reported expiry, so how and when government rises flow to CET depends on the new agreement. See the full Tasmanian public school pay scale and the Tasmanian graduate salary page.

2026 bargaining: what is on the table
The Fair Work Commission granted the IEU a single interest authorisation on 12 August 2026, and the first bargaining meeting was held on 25 August. The IEU has 62 claims. CET has 13, including a teacher attendance clause the IEU calls 'unacceptable', a trial school calendar from 2028 and a new salary scale for VET teachers.
On pay, CET proposes to keep the existing salary and parity mechanism in a three-year agreement mirroring Tasmanian public sector outcomes. No dollar figures have been tabled. The IEU says 19 November 2026 is the last chance to settle the drafting if a ballot is to happen this year. If that date passes, expect a vote in 2027.
Relief teaching, super and packaging
We have not verified CET's relief teacher rates. Government relief teachers are paid by the hour at their Band 1 level: $46.88 an hour at Level 5 and $67.25 at Level 13 from March 2026. Ask CET how its relief rates are set before you take bookings. Our casual relief teacher pay guide compares the states.
We could not confirm CET super beyond the 12% Superannuation Guarantee. Salary packaging is generally available at Catholic schools, which are usually FBT-rebatable: a 47% FBT rebate on up to $30,000 of grossed-up benefits a year. Our salary packaging guide explains the maths.
Moving between a government school and CET
Because the two scales are linked, a move between DECYP and CET should not change your base rate at the same level. What can change is the timing of rises, your super, packaging and the conditions in each agreement. CET's proposed teacher attendance clause and trial school calendar are examples of conditions that would differ from government schools if agreed.
Before you accept a CET offer
- Ask which level you will be placed on and how your government service is counted
- Ask for the current salary at that level in writing, and whether it includes the March 2026 rise
- Check the super percentage and whether packaging is available
- Ask how relief days are paid if you will start as a relief teacher
- Check the bargaining status, since conditions may change in the new agreement
Tasmanian independent schools
Independent schools in Tasmania set pay through their own agreements. Recent outcomes reported by the IEU include 3% a year at St Michael's Collegiate, 3% with protection against falling behind DECYP at Tarremah Steiner, and an employer proposal at the Friends' School of the lower of 4% or Hobart CPI. Schools with no agreement must pay at least the Educational Services (Teachers) Award 2020, from $75,941 at Level 1.
