The short answer
WA public school teachers are paid fortnightly, and the award sets fortnightly pay as annual salary × 12 ÷ 313. A graduate on Level 2.1 ($88,178 since 6 December 2025) should see about $3,380.63 gross a fortnight, about $718 PAYG and about $406 super at 12%, plus the Graduate Teacher Allowance. No rise is scheduled before the agreement expires on 5 December 2026.
- Leave loading is built into WA salaries, so there's no separate leave loading line.
- Super is worked out on gross salary before salary packaging.
- Relief teachers are paid by the hour, with a 20% loading.
- The last agreement was registered 11 months after its first rise date, and that rise was back-dated.
Where WA teachers find their payslip
WA Department of Education staff get electronic payslips through the Department's staff self-service system. We haven't been able to confirm the current system name or login path from a public Department page, so ask your school's manager corporate services or check the staff intranet if you can't find yours. Catholic Education WA and independent schools use their own payroll.

Why WA uses 12 ÷ 313
A year has 52 weeks and a day or two, so it's a little over 26 fortnights. Multiplying by 12 and dividing by 313 gives a fortnightly rate slightly below annual ÷ 26: about $11 a fortnight less at Level 2.1 and about $16 less at Level 2.9. Over 26 pays that comes to slightly under the annual figure, because the formula spreads salary over about 26.08 fortnights. If you're checking your payslip to the cent, use 12 ÷ 313, not ÷ 26.

- Salary ($88,178 × 12 ÷ 313)
- $3,380.63
- Graduate Teacher Allowance ($2,000 a year × 12 ÷ 313)

Country and remote allowances are where WA payslips most often go wrong, because they depend on the school and on paperwork. These are the main ones.
- Remote Teaching Service allowance: $20,870 (R1), $18,120 (R2) or $15,370 (R3) a year, paid fortnightly on top of salary and District Allowance.
- Country Teaching Program: $13,730 (Band A) down to $5,000 (Band D) a year at 146 country schools, paid fortnightly, as a December lump sum or for travel and PD.
- District Allowance: set by the public sector District Allowance agreement; it replaced the old teacher locality allowance under the 2023 GA.
- Regional Attraction and Retention Incentive (2026): up to $7,000 at 67 listed schools, paid 25% on commencement and 75% later.
- Metropolitan Teaching Program: up to $3,000 a year at 72 hard-to-staff Perth schools.

What happens when the agreement expires
The 2023 General Agreement expires on 5 December 2026. The SSTUWA has started its 2026 log of claims, and we found no government offer as at 16 October 2026. An expired agreement keeps applying, so your pay doesn't drop: it just doesn't rise until a new agreement is made.
Track it on our WA agreement news and WA pay rise page. If back pay does arrive and looks short, read teacher back pay wrong or missing.
Relief teachers: hourly pay
WA relief teachers are paid by the hour, not the day, at a rate set by their salary level and including a 20% loading in lieu of leave and allowances: $52.67 an hour at Level 2.1 up to $76.30 at Level 2.9 from 6 December 2025. Relief teachers move up a step after every 200 days worked. Check that your payslip shows the hours actually booked and the right level. See WA relief teacher pay.
Who to contact
Start with your school's manager corporate services, who can check what was submitted and when. They can raise it with the Department's payroll team. If it isn't resolved, SSTUWA members can contact the union; Catholic and independent school teachers contact the IEU WA Branch. If you've been told you were overpaid, read what happens with a teacher overpayment before agreeing to a plan.
