The short answer
Queensland Catholic diocesan school teachers are paid under the Diocesan Schools of Queensland 2023-2026 agreement, which reached its nominal expiry on 30 June 2026. The graduate rate was reported as $84,077 from July 2024. The IEU-QNT is claiming 4% a year; state school graduates now earn $90,164.
Catholic schools in Queensland don't use the state teacher scale. Diocesan schools share one agreement, and Religious Institute schools have a separate one. Current 2026 rates were not published at the time of writing, so treat the figures here as a guide and check your diocese's salary schedule.

Catholic vs state school pay
Catholic diocesan schools
- Graduate reported at $84,077 (July 2024, unverified)
- Agreement expired 30 June 2026
- Federal system (Fair Work Commission)
- IEU-QNT represents teachers
Queensland state schools
- Graduate $90,164 (from 1 Sep 2026)
- Agreement expired 30 June 2025, in QIRC arbitration

The two figures aren't from the same date, so don't read the gap as exact. Catholic teachers' rates will move when their new agreement is made.
Where bargaining is up to
- IEU claim (tabled 22 April 2026): 4% on 1 July each year, benchmarked to leading NSW rates rather than Queensland state rates.
- Other claims: cut the Proficient 8 period from three years to one, and lift graduate and Experienced Proficient Teacher rates.
- Employers: had made no wage offer as of late April 2026, and said back pay would only be paid if staff vote for a new agreement before 31 October 2026.
